Microsoft Internet Explorer

To turn on JavaScript in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
  2. Click the Web content zone that you are using (for example, click Local Intranet),
    and then click Custom Level button.
  3. Locate Active scripting under Scripting settings. Click to select the Enable radio button.
  4. Click OK button on Security Settings and Internet Options windows to save your changes.

To turn on JavaScript in Firefox, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.., and then click the Content tab.
  2. Click to select the Enable JavaScript check box.
  3. Click OK button to save the setting.

To turn on JavaScript in Safari, follow these steps:

  1. Open Safari
  2. On the Safari menu, click on Preferences.
  3. Click the Security icon.
  4. Click on Enable JavaScript next to the Web Content section if it is not checked
  5. Close the Preferences window
  6. Close and restart Safari.

Opera 9.xx series

To turn on JavaScript in Opera 9.xx series, follow these steps:

  1. Open Opera.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Preferences.
  3. Click Content in the Preferences list.
  4. Check the box next to Enable JavaScript.
  5. Click the JavaScript Options button to open the JavaScript Options box.
  6. Check the boxes that you want to allow.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.

Google Chrome(v0.4.154.23)

To turn on JavaScript in Google Chrome(v0.4.154.23), follow these steps:

  1. First close any open Chrome windows.
  2. Right click on a blank area of your Desktop.
  3. Select New.
  4. Create a new Shortcut with the following in the "Type the location of the item:" text box:
    • For Windows Vista:
      %userprofile%\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe -enable-javascript
    • For Windows XP:
      "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\chrome.exe" -enable-javascript
      Note: You'll have to enclose the file path for Windows XP in quotes due to there being spaces in it.

  • ​Verified by Visa® is a service provided by M&T Bank and Visa® to help enhance the security on your card. It helps ensure that only you are using your M&T Debit Card​ to shop online.

  • Anyone with an M&T Debit Card. The M&T Business Debit Card is not eligible to participate at this time.​

  • ​It provides added assurance when using your M&T Debit Card to make purchases online. You can be comfortable that any online merchant using the Verified by Visa® security system is a legitimate commercial entity.

  • Yes. Your information is transmitted using the highest level of encryption.​

  • ​No. Verified by Visa® is offered to you free of charge.

  • ​Once you've registered, your M&T Debit Card will automatically be recognized at any merchant participating in Verified by Visa®​.

  • ​​If you forget your password, it is easy to create a new one. In the Verified by Visa® window, there is a link just below the field where you enter your password that says "Forgot Your Password?" Click that link and verify your identity by entering your card details. Then, choose a new password.

    You can also re-register your card to create a new password. Since your identity will be verified when you register, you can be sure that only you can choose ​your Verified by Visa password.

    Remember, like your ATM PIN, always keep your Verified by Visa password secure and do not share it with anyone.

  • Verified by Visa® is very easy to use. Once you complete the registration process by verifying your identity, you can shop.

  • After online shopping, proceed to your merchant's checkout page. As the transaction is completed, you will be asked to enter your personal password. If you forget your password, simply click the link below the password entry field and you can re-create your password by answering a few simple questions.​

  • ​You can register in one of three ways:

    • Register through M&T
    • Register on the Visa® website
    • Register during the checkout process at any parti​cipating merchant​ – it's an easy process and takes only a minute​
  • ​When you shop on a participating merchant's website using your M&T Debit Card​ and are not registered, you will be prompted to register before the purchase is completed. You have the option to register later if you choose. However, you can only defer registration four times and must register after that. Keep in mind that on websites that are NOT participating in Verified by Visa®, your card will continue to work as usual.

  • ​To register, you will need to have your M&T Debit Card​ in front of you and have your PIN ready.

  • ​We are safeguarding the use of M&T Debit Cards by their rightful owners. We must make sure that the owners of M&T Debit Card account​s are the ones actually using it. Keep in mind that no personal information, including your PIN, is ever shared with anyone else.​

  • ​Yes, and you are encouraged to update and maintain your account information. You can customize your Personal Assurance Message, giving you extra confidence that the Verified by Visa® window you see during the purchase process is indeed genuine. 

    You can also change your password if you so choose. 

  • ​​You create your Personal Assurance Message during the registration process. It will be displayed back to you when you are prompted for your password during Verified by Visa® password verification at checkout. The Personal Assurance Message was designed to reduce the risk of fraudulent merchants presenting false credentials to unknowing Internet users in order to gain access to personal financial information. So, when the Verified by Visa password window prompt includes your Personal Assurance Message, that’s extra assurance that it is actually Verified by Visa asking you for your password and not someone else masquerading as Verified by Visa.

  • ​If your card is lost or stolen, you should immediately call the M&T Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-1552, or stop into a branch to report the incident. Once your new card number is received, you will need to register your new card​ for Verified by Visa®.
